NRMP Report

We begin with some positive developments in North Kildonan in Winnipeg. Marsha gets to have new MCSI database number 2019-01 thanks to a new find near Bunn’s Creek. Here she takes up the story:

We were at Chief Peguis Junior High School (1400 Rothesay)…a new site I believe in North Kildonan….and we actually saw a chimney swift enter the stack 3 minutes after sunset!’

Nicole, Cain and Eli sent their report in from the Fleetwood in Wolseley for the 18th and 19th May:

‘We had 2 swifts enter at the Fleetwood on Saturday and Sunday nights.

There were still 3 or four in the air and going somewhere southeast of the Fleetwood.  Cain and I checked out 59 Evanson (Rosa Linda Apartment) which was a promising site last night with swifts flying over head but no entries…our quest to find where these birds are bedding down continues.’

On the 21st, 5 swifts were observed at the Lower Fort Garry Historic Site by Gerald, 2 swifts entered the southeast chimney, one left, leaving one for the night. Gerald was also at Lockport on the 22nd but alas, and not surprisingly saw no swifts. There were also 4 entries and exits at the Merchant’s Hotel in Selkirk on the 20th. Robert and Donna noted 7 swifts enter the large stack at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre on the 21st. On the same night they noted 2 swifts fly into the Infirmary.

Colleen and Mark were back at Otterburne on the 21st May. They saw 7 swifts in the air, but could only account for 5 in the chimneys. Strangely, they observed a swift fly into a different chimney on site. We will follow-up on this one for sure.

Kelly-Anne on Academy in Winnipeg sent the following report:

‘I monitored on Friday, May 17 and saw a few swifts in the sky but nobody roosted in site 44.‘
